The answer is six.  Six bendy ballet flats.  At least that’s what I was able to get inside my 22″ Travelpro, along with everything else I needed –  including my four year-old son’s clothing, when I flew from Dallas to Los Angeles last week. 

Normally when I travel I only pack  – at most- two pairs of shoes, but sometimes I somehow wind up acquiring things along the way.  Like three new pairs of shoes!  Hey, these things happen.  Luckily I didn’t have to leave anything behind this time.  That’s right, I was able to squish three new pairs of bendy flats inside my bag.  

The point I’m trying to make here is flats are your friend, especially when you’re on the road and trying to make the most of packing space.
